We are pleased to confirm that the T@W: Sustainable Energy Technology at Work project, which came to an end in Spring 2008, will be continued and complemented by the project SETatWork.

SETatWork will start in August 2008 and is supported under the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) [ed: actual start date of SETatWork - 1 September 2008].

The focal point of both actions is to promote sustainable energy technologies at carbon markets in coordination with market actors.

This Newsletter serves as an intermediate between the two projects by presenting the highlights of T@W and giving an introduction to SETatWork.

In the final stage of the T@W action, the project team produced a publication under the title
Sustainable Energy Technologies and RTD practice at the ETS and CDM markets: An inspiration for the various market actors in Europe and the world”.

The publication contains an introduction to the functioning of the ETS and CDM markets and the impact of sustainable energy technologies on these markets. Further it presents T@W's main achievements, summarising our promotional efforts at the targeted EU ETS markets (Portugal, Spain, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Germany, Poland and Denmark) and CDM markets (India, China, Thailand and Malaysia), including good practice examples. It concludes by making recommendations on future activities and providing contacts for the partners involved in both actions.

The publication can be downloaded free of charge from:

SETatWork Project August 2008-2010

Contract negotiations are now finalised with the European Commission on a project to carry on, complement and expand the promotional efforts and activities of T@W under the heading of ‘Sustainable Energy Technology at Work’ with the acronym ‘SETatWork’.

The new project will take a similar approach on bringing together actors in the carbon market but will, in contrast to T@W, have an emphasis on energy efficiency, recognising energy efficiency as a main factor in achieving climate protection goals.

SETatWork commences on 1 August 2008 [ed: actual start date of SETatWork - 1 September 2008] for a period of two years.

All those currently registered to receive information from T@W will automatically be registered with SETatWork.

T@W Assessment Tool and Database

On 22 February 2008, two new facilities were added to the T@W website - the T@W Database and the T@W Assessment Tool. They can be accessed by clicking on the links at the bottom lefthand side of the screen on the main pages of the website. Note: both the database and the tool open in a new window.

T@W Database

The database gives access to summary information as links to third party websites.

We are in the process of developing a searchable database and input forms so that service and technology providers can add their information to the database. This searchable database should be available in Autumn 2008.

The T@W Database currently contains information about:

  • Technology Providers
  • Brokers & Traders
  • Funds & Finance
  • Consultants including Project Developers
  • Other Contacts
  • Energy Studies including Energy Audits and Feasibility Studies
  • Case Studies and Good Practices
  • links to information on EU ETS, CDM and JI

You can also find good practices and project idea notes (PINs), as well as further background information on the main T@W website.

T@W Assessment Tool

If you are interested in becoming involved in carbon trading, then you need to consider your emission position.

TheAssessment Tool has been designed by the T@W team to help you find the most economical option for you to answer your CO2 emission problems, leading to reduction of emissions through investing in either internal or external projects. It will also provide you with a cost overview for implementing and conducting your own CDM/JI project, providing (for example) typical trading (fixed and variable) costs, as well as an overview of the CO2 situation.

The Tool will also guide you to a wide range of resources that will help you make the right decision whether your company is considering buying or selling carbon certificates or just wishes to reduce its level of CO2 emissions. It will also help you identify the important steps required for you to reach your targets, providing examples of good practice and calculation of reduction measures.

While using the tool, you will be asked a series of questions. The aim of the tool is to help the user, so the answers you give will not be stored by T@W.
