SETatWork Project Partners at Bright GreenAt the SETatWork exhibition stand during Bright Green, project partners made a series of presentations on the findings from project activities to date, as well as details of the project's intervention in the carbon markets.

In addition, country-specific materials and good practice case studies were distributed, including factsheets with an overview of the targeted ETS and CDM markets in each country.

The presentations and factsheets can be downloaded by clicking on the links in the Sections below.

Other publications distributed during COP15 are highlighted in the SETatWork January 2010 newsletter. These include details of 8 new good practice case studies and background on how SETatWork can assist Energy-Intensive Industries and Sustainable Energy Technology (SET) Providers in meeting the challenges of climate change and making more of the opportunities offered by the carbon markets

Opportunities for Sustainable Energy Technologies in the Carbon Markets in Europe
Enterprise Europe Network

Background to the Event

In December 2009, SETatWork a workshop at a stand [No. 90] at the Bright Green Exhibition, www.brightgreen.dk. Bright Green was organised by the Confederation of Danish Industry and took place in Copenhagen, 12-13 December 2009, in connection with the climate conference COP15.

The aim of the SETatWork intervention at Bright Green was to establish contacts between actors on the carbon markets, through match-making events and dissemination of information about:

  • SETatWork's activities
  • EU ETS projects and energy efficiency training in Europe
  • CDM in Asia, South America and Africa
  • Sustainable Energy Technology and service providers

At this time, the SETatWork project had reached its mid-term stage under coordination of Energy Consulting Network. The core activities so far had been to examine the needs of companies under the European Emission Trading Scheme (EU ETS) in terms of CO2 handling as well as identifying CDM project opportunities at CDM markets in Asia, Africa and Latin America of interest for EU stakeholders.

The project partners developed a series of events for the stand. Visitors were also able to collect information and speak to project partners about SETatWork's activities, as well as find out more about CDM projects, EU ETS projects and energy efficiency training, and sustainable energy technology and service providers in their country.

Enterprise Europe Network

Enterprise Europe Network logoRepresentatives from Enterprise Europe Network and the Network’s Sector Group Intelligent Energy were also present during Bright Green and, in particular, hosted the stand between 2 pm and 5 pm on Sunday 13 December.

Enterprise Europe Network is the European Commission’s network of contact points in more that 40 countries (EU member states, candidate countries, members of the European Economic Area and other participating third countries) providing information and advice to companies on EU matters, in particular small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

The Sector Group Intelligent Energy comprises some 70 members from the network, representing most EU Member States, candidate and associated countries. The members of the group offer necessary guidance, contacts and information in order to find European business and technology partners for successful technical cooperation, business agreements and European research projects in the energy sector.

A number of offers and requests from the network's Technology and Business Cooperation Database were available at the stand, covering biogas, biomass and biofuels, photovoltaics and solar thermal, hydropower and wave energy, wind and geothermal energy, renewable energies for energy efficient buildings, fuel cells and hydrogen technologies, energy efficiency, energy production, storage and distribution.

The COP15 conference was the fifteenth Conference of the Parties under the United Nations’ Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The conference took place from 7 December to 18 December 2009.

As well as joining SETatWork for its two day event during Bright Green, visitors to COP15 were also able to find out more about the SETatWork project at two stands in the Bella Center:

  • e5 Exhibit Booth in Hall H (www.e5.org - 7-11 December)
  • The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) Exhibit
