Climate Change

United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)
Over a decade ago, most countries joined an international treaty - the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) - to begin to consider what can be done to reduce global warming and to cope with whatever temperature increases are inevitable. Recently, a number of nations have approved an addition to the treaty: the Kyoto Protocol, which has more powerful (and legally binding) measures.  This website gives a detailed overview of the key issues relating to international agreement on climate change.

Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has been established by the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) and United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to assess scientific, technical and socio- economic information relevant for the understanding of climate change, its potential impacts and options for adaptation and mitigation. It is open to all Members of the UN and of WMO.

World Meteorological Organisation (WMO)
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) is a Specialized Agency of the United Nations. It is the UN system's authoritative voice on the state and behaviour of the Earth's atmosphere, its interaction with the oceans, the climate it produces and the resulting distribution of water resources.

United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)
The mission of UNEP is to provide leadership and encourage partnership in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing, and enabling nations and peoples to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations.

NASA's Global Hydrology and Climate Center (GHCC)
The Global Hydrology and Climate Center provides integrated scientific understanding of the Earth system to enable better decisions improving the global quality of life.

OECD and Climate Change
The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) aims to assist countries to implement effective and efficient policies to address climate change by conducting policy-relevant research and analysis. Mitigation of GHG emissions, adaptation policies, analysis of the connections between sustainability and climate change, and incentives and possible approaches to achieve long-term policy objectives are essential elements of the programme.
