Further Information

CECED was founded in 1958 as an initiative of the Western European National Associations and established a permanent office in Brussels so as to better represent the industry in relation to the European institutions.

Today, CECED has 15 Direct Members and 26 National Associations representing 23 countries.

CECED€s main objective is to represent and defend European Industry interests by providing a forum where agreement can be reached on issues of common interest such as product/process standardisation and regulatory initiatives. CECED acts as a dialogue partner with the EU's political and regulatory institutions and interacts with all interested parties to achieve consensus that can result in concrete commitments within the industry and that can become the basis for EU policy initiatives.

Household appliances have an environmental impact in all phases of their "lifecycle"; during production, while in use and at end of life. Studies indicate that the most relevant environmental impact occurs when appliances are in service in households. So policy has recently focused on energy consumption during use.

All appliances, regardless of size, become waste after they have been discarded by consumers requiring that manufacturers offer viable solutions to collect and recover/recycle household appliances.

CECED has been actively pursuing effective solutions to the energy efficiency issue by promoting rational energy use at all levels. CECED strongly believes that unilateral industry commitments are the best way to act as they exploit the impact on the market and maintain a certain degree of flexibility which is required by the continuous evolution of the market place and relevant legislation.
