Tomas Bata University in Zlin, Institute of Physics & Material Engineering is part of the Faculty of technology, which is focused mainly on commodity plastics, rubber and composite materials technology, production and applied research. It is a typical university based research team, which is involved both in the teaching process of MSc, BSc and PhD study programmes, as well as in applied research projects (local industry, international cooperation). Team expertise is oriented mainly in the area of general materials science and technology. The Institute is capable of an integral view on a broad range of problems to be solved both from the technical/scientific points of view as well as from the economic and environmental impact effects points of view.

The institutes main industrial partners are from the chemical and plastic industry, electronic, automotive, defense and aerospace industries (e.g. Unipetrol, Chemopetrol, Kaucuk, Robert Bosch, Siemens Automotive, CEZ, Gumotex, Fatra, Barum Continental, Struers, Precheza, Solartec, Synthesia, CZ Uh. Brod etc.).
