The R&D expertise of the Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology ICT is primarily addressed toward products and processes in the fields of polymer technology, environmental engineering, electrochemistry and chemical energy sources.

The facilities and expertise focus on the conception, computation and development of products and components, on process technology, on research into materials and constituent substances, on characterization, testing and quality assurance. Feasibility studies carried out by the institute, rapid prototyping, construction and operation of pilot plant, the use of industrial manufacturing techniques, and tool making, all emphasize the ICT's practical orientation. Further expertise is invested in the development of environmentally compatible products and production methods, and in the treatment and disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with the principles of resource management and sustainability.
